Wonder & Awe Revisited

Just a month ago I wrote Wonder & Awe
A post for my children
To let them know what my heart holds for them

Today I discovered
This beautiful song
That captures even more of those emotions

Thank you Mark Harris for this beautiful expression of love.
It made me smile...and cry.

Roots and wings...
That really is the very best that I can give my children.

Sing Out

Today is a day to celebrate
Give me the voice to sing out

The reasons are many
The joy is real

Help me find the words
To sing out
....And celebrate today!

Today I Pray...

With a joyful and grateful heart
....for my Dad

Thank you for working so hard
to find your voice
and your strength
So that you could come back home
where you belong

With gratitude and love
....for my Mom

Thank you for showing us
Every single day what real love is all about
...patient and kind
...never ending

A child couldn't ask for more inspiration
than the love you two live
Every day, every week, every year

Welcome home Dad!

Love..."bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails..." 1 Corinthians 13:7-8

No One Heard

She cried out in the night
And no one heard

Helpless
Hopeless
Alone

Ashamed
She hid the bruises
So no one would see

And though his words
Cut through her
like a knife
She shielded her bleeding heart

She cried out in the night
And no one heard

Helpless
Hopeless
Alone

Today I Pray...

...with a grateful heart
for the loving relationships
that have always been a part of my life

I am a lucky one...
...others can't say the same

I pray for help and healing
for the wounded souls
who are impacted by domestic violence

May the abused
find comfort, peace and love

May the abusers
seek help and self-healing

May the rest of us
find a way to make a difference

I first started to learn the staggering facts about domestic violence through my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega. Over the years, Alpha Chi has adopted several national causes. Currently, almost all of our chapters, both collegiate and alumnae, work to end domestic violence. Although I am not associated with an alumnae chapter, I want to do my part to help end the horror of domestic violence.

I offer my
post today in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I would like to ask you to help me make a difference for the estimated 1.3 million women who are victims of domestic violence each year.

Here are just a few ways you can help.

  • First of all -- PRAY -- it matters.
  • Share this post with your network of friends.
  • Email it.
  • Tweet about it.
  • Blog about it.
  • Spread the word however you see fit.
In addition, as an independent representative of Wildtree (all-natural foods products), I will be donating 20% of all sales made this month to Silent Witness National Initiative. Please consider shopping with me as a way to eat healthy and help stop domestic violence.

Note: This is my own commitment made independently of Wildtree, only sales made through
my website will qualify.

Please do what you can to help make a difference.

Melt

Trying so hard
to hold it all together

Now is not the time
to come undone

But the dog's barking
The phone's ringing
So much to do, and
Tensions are running high

The mountain of belongings
stacked up in the hall
Tell a story of a new adventure
about to begin

...the next step for a little girl
who's growing up
...and the mix of emotions
for a family who is learning to let go

Without even realizing it
A tear rolls down my face
then another

....and before I know it

I begin to melt

Today I Pray...

....for laughter and joy
...for patience and understanding
...for compassionate hearts
And a deep awareness of
Your unfailing
peace and love
settled deep within our bones

Twenty More

Twenty years ago today
A young girl
with butterflies in her stomach
clutched her Daddy's arm
And took a short walk

She never stopped grinning
At what she saw before her....

The bluest eyes
The broadest smile
Excitement
Joy
A thousand hopes and dreams
A home, a family
A life together

...Forever.

The walk
....was down the aisle

The eyes
...were yours

The hopes and dreams
...still grow from year to year

The family
....is ours (and an amazing blessing)

The life together -- tried and true --
...is a gift I would never trade

Today I Pray...

...for my husband,
my very best friend,
the love of my life

the hopes and dreams
the excitement and joy
are as real today as they were
twenty years ago

I am so grateful
that you never gave up on me...
...or on us

...I pray for 20 more years
...and 20 more after that

...always with you by my side

I love you Jeff.

Unspoken

A thousand words left unspoken
Sometime
The silence hurts

Try though we may
To say what's on our minds
Sometimes
Silence
Hangs between us like
A thick curtain

In those moments
Void of your reassuring
Voice

I admit I fill the gaps
With worries

What did I do?
Why are you upset?
Don't I make you happy?

But then I try to
Remind myself
What I've learned
Over the years

To trust
What I know
Over the feeling
of silence

And remember
that even I
Like to be alone
With my thoughts
Sometimes

So I hold my breath
Giving you
More air to
Breathe

And I wait
For the cue
To exhale

Sometimes it's
Your booming laughter

Or a hug
held a moment longer

Or your head
upon my shoulder

Or a moment of vulnerability
when you share
the thoughts that had
stolen your words

But the beautiful thing
Is that you
Never fail me

Today I Pray...

...that your worries are few

...that you always know He is with you
no matter what thoughts weigh on your mind

...that we continue to respect each other's need to breathe

...and find ways to share the weight of each other's load

...that you know you can trust in me, like I trust in you

"Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love."
1 Corinthians 13:13

Precious

A newborn baby
Sleeps soundly
in your arms
...Precious

Fuzzy little kitten
Scurries
at your feet
...Precious

Giggling toddler
Chases fireflies
in the night
...Precious

Butterfly kisses
From sticky-fingered tots
...Precious

"I love you"
"Please" and "Thank you"
"I'm glad you are my friend"
...Precious

There is something
about "Precious"

It is tender
Sweet and kind

It is pure and easy
...Gentle innocence

...Precious

Today I Pray...

...that I appreciate
just how precious
every new day is

...that I don't neglect
to say
"I love you"

...that I celebrate the moments
that make everyday life

...precious

Louder than Words

It's easiest said with words

Yet most sincerely
with actions

A thoughtful gesture
An act of kindness

Patience
Compassion
Honesty
Empathy
Generosity of spirit

A gentle touch
A hug held a moment longer

Quiet company
That listens
...And shares

A smile
A thank you
A kiss goodnight

Actions speak...
...the heart listens

Today I Pray...

...that my actions say
"I love you"

...louder than my voice
could ever speak

A Dog's Life

Today I Pray...

...that I can learn to be more like my dog.

...exuberant about every day
...generous with kisses
...eager to please
...carefree and able to relax and enjoy a good nap
...yet quick to my feet when someone wants to play
...a loyal and unselfish companion
...who knows what it means to love unconditionally
